CONGRATULATIONS TO SANDRA LODER

and DEE REYNER

Dee Reyner (known to his friends as Henry) with his rider Sandra Loder has just won The Western Boots and Saddles Company sponsored 2007 East Coast Superhorse Title. The Superhorse Title is awarded to the horse achieving the most points, in Western and English classes at the three East Coast events, which involved the combination competing at a total of 6 American Quarter Horse Shows held over three weekends, during Spring, Summer and Autumn of this year.

Sandra lives at Glenkindie some 40 miles west of Aberdeen and the three shows were held in the East of England with the last two being held at Horse Creek Arena near March in Cambridgeshire. The total distance travelled by Sandra and Henry, to attend all three East Coast Show Circuits, is a staggering 3,000 miles!

Mind you, Henry is a much travelled and multi talented 10 year old sorrel quarterhorse gelding, a true representative of the versatile Quarter Horse breed. Bred in California by Sterling Quarter Horses, Dee Reyner is by Mr Solano Rey out of Bueno Chex Dee.

Henry was imported to Europe as a youngster and trained by Doug Allan, and was competed successfully in AQHA and NRHA shows in England and Europe, ridden by Rosanne Sternberg, Doug Allen and Alan Calbrix.

His fairly short reining career was halted in 2001, when Sandra’s brother-in-law David

Loder, who was at that time a Newmarket Race Horse Trainer, bought him for his wife Cressy (who still owns him). Sam Magdaleno who at that time was working for David Loder remembers going down to see Henry with the Loders, and has played his part

in Henry’s Superhorse title, by being the half way stop for the arduous journey to

and from Scotland for the East Coast shows and by helping Sandra.

For the next four years Henry was Cressy’s hack on the Newmarket gallops,

before moving on to hunting with the Heythrop with Cressy Loder. Sandra was offered the chance to have Henry in 2006 and he moved northwards where, from what Sandra says, he had a real shock when he saw real (deep!) snow. It must have been a bit of a shock to his California bred system, as Sandra comments he kept his winter coat until nearly June!

2006 saw Sandra and Henry competed at the Scottish AQHA show and in 2007 went

“down south” for the East Coast Circuit Shows. After the first circuit (2 shows),

held in May, Henry was in 2nd place in the Superhorse Standings. Sandra’s

husband had noticed Henry was in touch with the leaders and pointed it out to

Sandra, who then made the return journey a month later in June for the second

circuit and middle two shows. It was here that Henry took over the lead in the

Superhorse Rankings. In the torrential downpours that they had to deal with at

those two shows, Sandra and Henry were a whirling hive of activity, consistently

placing and not only increasing their lead in the Superhorse standings, but adding points to other circuit award standings.

These final two shows in wonderful September weather saw Henry cementing

his well earned Superhorse title, together with Sandra also winning the

Circuit Awards for Amateur and Novice Amateur Horsemanship, Nov Am Western

Pleasure, Nov Am Hunt Seat Equitation and Hunter Under Saddle as well as the

Brian Carter Memorial Award for Rookie Novice Amateurs showing at the East

Coast show.

Sandra, who prior to hitching up with Henry had explored all equestrian

avenues, including two years Western with her little cob Dew Dew, has worked

incredibly hard at the shows to achieve this title with Henry and has shown

incredible commitment, always with a smile.
